Pregnant Seattle Mother Charleena Lyles Shot and Killed by Police

Thirty-year-old Charleena Lyles was shot and killed by police in her Seattle apartment on June 18. Police say Lyles was holding a knife. On Sunday morning just before 10 a.m., two patrol officers were dispatched to investigate a reported burglary at Brettler Family Place, an apartment complex for people transitioning out of homelessness, according to Detective Mark Jamieson. The Seattle Times reported that Charleena Lyles was the person who actually called the police to report a possible burglary.

As the officers got the the 4th floor of the apartment building, they found Charleena with a knife in her hand and fatally shot her.  Just a thought, if she was the person who called the police reporting a burglary, why would she not be armed with something to defend herself and her children against the robbers? Also according to her cousin, Lyles suffered from a mental disorder and the family is questioning why would they not tase her instead.

According to reports, none of the children were harmed but it is still unofficial whether or not the children witnessed the shooting. Lyle's was also pregnant with her fourth child.

The officers involved in the shooting, an 11-year veteran and a newer officer, were placed on paid leave, police Captain Sean O’Donnell told local media.
